I know, homelessness is complicated. Where do we start? Housing? Mental health? Harm Reduction? Poverty? Incarceration? Crime? Everybody wants to reduce homelessness, and to do so, we should understand what’s working on a global level and then test and learn in our own cities. Housing Doesn’t Solve Homelessness
People want homelessness solved. Homeless people want homelessness solved. In a society that values quick, easy wins, we’ve come up with concepts and metrics that are pure lunacy. Incarcerating poor people is despicable. Moving folks from my neighborhood to your neighborhood is dumb. Claiming someone got housed when they leave after a couple days is political.
